02.09.2014  АОРР

AORR's correspondent witnessed today the formal opening of the modern wholesale food market built at a distance less than 1 kilometer from the Moscow Ring Road. The market's name is 'Food City', and it belongs to a private company named 'Kievskaya Ploschad.' The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin and the city administration officials. Markets of such a type are conventionally referred to as 'agro-clusters,' and 'Food City' is the first of four such premises scheduled to be built in the Moscow city area in the nearest years.

'Food City' occupies 84,5 hectares of land and includes a two-storey multi-purpose commercial building with a floor space of 246,000 sq. m. equipped with refrigerators for storage of meat, fish, dairy, F&V, groceries, and flowers etc., several premises with buyers' walks in the center and wholesaler stalls on each side to which trucks are backed (F&V). In the nearest future the market's owners plan to construct additional 30,800 sq. m. of office space, a hotel with a capacity of 656 guests, and 62,000 sq. m. of storage facilities.
